Duolingo Offers $30K Scholarship to Empower Indian Women in STEM

The Duolingo English Test (DET) has declared the availability of applications for the DETermined Scholarship, which provides a one-time award of USD 30,000 to assist Indian women studying undergraduate or postgraduate programs in STEM fields at U.S. universities. Submissions are accepted until 30 June through the Manthan portal.
This effort, initiated in partnership with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, seeks to tackle financial obstacles encountered by Indian women in STEM and enhance global academic prospects. The scholarship is open to women intending to start their studies in the Spring 2026 semester at colleges that recognize DET scores for admission.
Candidates must possess Indian citizenship, live in India, have a solid academic record in science with no less than 60% marks, and achieve a minimum DET score of 120. They should also exhibit leadership traits, suggest creative solutions to actual STEM problems, and express a desire to return to India to aid the innovation ecosystem.

The selection procedure includes three stages: the submission of academic transcripts and DET scores, a STEM Impact Proposal Challenge, and a concluding interview with a jury panel. The successful candidate will be revealed in September 2025, and the grant will be applied directly to their tuition expenses.
The DETermined Scholarship is an initiative aimed at enhancing India’s prominence in STEM education and promoting gender equality. It also indicates the increasing acceptance of the DET as a versatile, online English language assessment recognized by more than 5,800 institutions globally.
