The Merck Foundation has expanded its healthcare scholarship programmes to more countries which now include Ethiopia because the foundation wants to develop medical capacity in Africa and other developing areas.

The program aims to solve essential trained medical staff shortages through its provision of specialized training programs for medical fields that lack proper education.

The foundation plan needs to train doctors and medical staff members through advanced clinical skills development which will enable them to deliver better healthcare services to areas that lack sufficient medical professionals.

The scholarship program provides financial support for multiple medical fields which include oncology and cardiology and diabetes care and other essential medical specialties.

The program provides multiple educational opportunities through its fellowship programs and postgraduate diploma courses and master’s degree study options which it offers together with partner international universities and institutions.

The foundation reports that it has awarded more than 2600 scholarships to healthcare professionals from more than 50 countries which show the extensive reach and beneficial effects of its program.
