Summer 2026 Study Abroad Applications Now Open

- Skyline College launches study trips to Japan, South Africa, and Peru.
- Each program includes two courses and immersive cultural experiences.

Skyline College students will have the opportunity next semester to travel to various countries, explore new cultures, and earn academic credits during the trip. Students will have the chance to visit Japan, South Africa, or Peru and will enroll in two classes related to each destination that will aid them in critically reflecting on their experiences during the trip.
For students intending to travel to Kyoto, Japan, the application deadline is March 19, 2026. Students will depart the United States on June 12 and will come back from Japan on June 27. Students will enroll in two courses, one focused on ethnographic film and the other on interaction design. The journey will concentrate on Japanese culture via cinema, exploring how items within Japanese culture are tailored specifically for the user's needs, implying that objects prioritize user-friendly design.
In Japan, students will have an opportunity to explore the Gion or Higashiyama area. They are additionally intending to explore Toei Studio Park: a theme park designed in the style of the Edo period, which occurred between 1600 and 1868. Students will also have the opportunity to visit Hiroshima, where they can explore the National Peace Park and Memorial Museum.
Students intending to travel to South Africa must submit their applications by March 11, 2026. Students are scheduled to depart from the United States on June 11 and will come back from South Africa on June 28. Students will enroll in two classes: Intercultural Communication and African American History. By examining intercultural communication, students will grasp how interacting with diverse cultures can aid in comprehending the distinctions among individuals. In the course of examining African American History, students will explore various African customs and the broader African diaspora.

Students will come to Johannesburg in South Africa. Afterward, they will explore Soweto and see the house of Nelson Mandela. Afterward, they will explore the Apartheid museum and take a tour around the city of Johannesburg. The class will travel by plane from Johannesburg to Durban, where they will embark on a cultural and historical tour.
At the start of the journey, students will be in Lima, Peru, a more urban area, where they will explore how the city manages pollution and resources. After that, they will spend five days in the Andes mountains, during which they will study water resources and solid waste management before visiting Machu Picchu. Finally, they will journey to a quaint fishing village, where students will collaborate with local inhabitants on community initiatives focused on water purification and sustainable energy.
