UAE President Launches National Program for Advanced Technology

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed establishes a National Programme for Advanced Sciences and Technologies to connect education, research and talent development with strategic industries and strengthen national capabilities.

The UAE introduces a new National Programme for Advanced Science and Technology with a view to improving its competence in science, technology, research, and advanced industries. The president of the UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan makes a decree setting up the program as part of the efforts of creating an integrated national system that links education, research, and human resource development with the economy.

This programme intends to develop the industrial strengths of the UAE, enhance the competitiveness of Emirati products, and uphold the sovereignty of the country in key sectors. This programme is a systematic approach for connecting scientific learning and research to the needs of advanced industries and technology.

The initiative concentrates on four major aspects: technical training, talent development at the national level, talent acquisition, and research and innovation in advanced scientific disciplines. Through these tracks, the UAE plans to develop a competent labor force that can meet the demands of industries requiring scientific and technical skills.

One of the main objectives of this initiative is to improve investments in talented individuals in the nation. This includes the qualification of professionals in the field of science, advanced technologies, and important specializations for the future while developing processes for bringing specialized foreign experts. This initiative aims to facilitate knowledge creation in the country.

The programme also forms the Higher Committee for the National Program for Advanced Science & Technology in order to give directions to its different components. The Chairman of this committee is Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs acts as Deputy Chairman of this committee.

The responsibility of this committee is to establish priorities, develop policies and ensure the program’s direction. In addition, it evaluates the implementation and provides suggestions intended to improve its efficiency and sustainability.

Further, the decision creates an office for the National Programme that collaborates with the various tracks’ leaders in order to formulate plans, programs, policies, and initiatives. The office keeps an eye on the implementation and writes regular reports on the status of progress and performance. Furthermore, the office is in charge of forging partnerships locally and internationally.

The project is in line with UAE’s overall objective of creating a knowledge-based economy and developing indigenous expertise in strategic technologies. Through the establishment of a connection between universities, R&D, talent, and industry, the project aims at ensuring that scientific and technological skills directly support national development.

Through the National Programme for Advanced Sciences and Technologies, the UAE aims to create a coordinated ecosystem that supports innovation, strengthens industrial competitiveness and prepares national talent for future scientific and technological requirements.
