UN Young Professionals Programme 2026 Opens Applications

The UN Young Professionals Programme 2026 invites eligible graduates to apply for its Development and Sustainability examination by November 30. Applicants must meet nationality, age, education and language requirements.

The United Nations (UN) has opened applications for its 2026 Young Professionals Programme (YPP), offering eligible young graduates an opportunity to pursue entry-level professional careers within the UN Secretariat. The application deadline is November 30, 2026.

The programme features a competitive entrance examination in Development and Sustainability, covering areas related to economic and social development, environmental issues, and sustainable development. Applicants must meet the prescribed nationality, age, educational qualification, and language requirements to be considered.

However, the programme is restricted to nationals of countries included in the UN’s participating-country list for 2026. India is not included in this year’s list, meaning Indian nationals cannot apply based on Indian citizenship alone. Prospective applicants should consult the official UN Careers website to verify the eligible countries and other requirements.

Applicants must be nationals of a participating country listed for the 2026 programme. They must be 32 years old or younger by December 31, 2026, meaning candidates must have been born on or after January 1, 1994.

Candidates must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification requiring a minimum of three years of study in a field relevant to the examination. They must also demonstrate fluency in either English or French. Applicants should review the official vacancy announcement to confirm the accepted fields of study and any additional eligibility conditions.

The Young Professionals Programme is a competitive recruitment initiative through which the UN identifies qualified candidates for professional positions within its Secretariat. Candidates must pass the relevant entrance examination and complete the required selection process.

Successful candidates may be placed on a roster for consideration for suitable vacancies. However, inclusion on the roster does not guarantee employment, as appointments depend on available positions and the organisation’s staffing requirements.

Eligible candidates should visit the official UN Careers website and review the 2026 participating-country list and the vacancy announcement for the Development and Sustainability examination. They must carefully check the educational qualifications, age limit, language requirements, and other conditions before completing their application through the UN’s online recruitment system, Inspira.

Applicants must submit their applications by November 30, 2026. Candidates should rely on official UN announcements for updates regarding the examination and subsequent recruitment stages.
