IIT Delhi Introduces 4 Year BTech in Design for 2025 Admissions
- IIT Delhi launches BTech in Design for 2025-26, blending technical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Admission requires JEE Advanced and UCEED scores, with 20 seats for Class 12 graduates.
- Curriculum offers 155 credits, half in design, half interdisciplinary, aligning with IIT’s flexible overhaul.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced the launch of a new four-year BTech in Design program, set to commence in the academic year 2025-26. Offered by the Department of Design, this innovative undergraduate course aims to blend technical expertise with creative problem-solving, focusing on addressing socio-technical challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
Candidates for the BTech in Design have to score well in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Those who excel in national exams are the only ones who may be considered for admission, assuring that the process is tough. To be eligible, candidates should have finished their Class 12 or the equivalent in 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics being their main subjects. Birth certificate should indicate that a candidate for UCEED is born on or after October 1, 2000, unless one is choosing under the SC, ST, or PwD category, as they may relax the age requirement by five years.
The program, structured with a total credit requirement of 155, will initially admit 20 students. Almost half of the classes will teach key design theories, while the other classes are from different departments, giving you well-rounded education.
The initiative fits well with IIT Delhi’s plan for changing its curriculum by 2025-26 to include flexibility, practical experiences, and a decrease in stress for students. Highlights of the new system are a smaller number of first-year students (from 300 to 150), a lower total course load, and alternatives for students who want an Honours or BTech-MTech degree.

The application process will be conducted online via IIT Delhi’s admissions portal, with candidates required to submit valid JEE Advanced and UCEED scores. Important deadlines for application submission, counseling, and seat allotment will be announced on the institute’s website, and applicants are advised to monitor updates regularly.
This new program underscores IIT Delhi’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing contemporary challenges through design thinking, positioning its graduates to make significant contributions to both industry and society.
