DTU Expands BTech Curriculum With Data Science and Economics

Synopsis: Delhi Technological University introduces new integrated programmes in Data Science and Applied Statistics, a BTech-MS pathway with the University of Houston, and an Economics double major for BTech students, expanding interdisciplinary and industry-focused learning opportunities.

Delhi Technological University (DTU) has announced a series of new academic programmes aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary education and equipping students with industry-relevant skills.

The initiatives, unveiled during the university's annual press conference marking its 85th anniversary, include new integrated degree programmes, an international academic collaboration, and specialised learning pathways that will be introduced from the 2026-27 academic session.

Among the key additions are two five-year Integrated BSc-MSc programmes in Data Science and Applied Statistics. The programmes have been designed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and will offer students flexible learning options with multiple entry and exit provisions.

Admissions will be based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) scores, providing students with opportunities to pursue emerging fields that combine mathematics, statistics, computing, and data-driven decision-making.

DTU has also introduced a 4+1 Accelerated BTech-MS programme in collaboration with the University of Houston, United States. Under the programme, students can complete their BTech at DTU before pursuing a master's degree at the University of Houston, with eligible academic credits transferred in accordance with the partner university's admission policies. The initiative is expected to enhance global academic exposure and research opportunities for engineering students.

In another significant move, the university has launched a Double Major in Economics for BTech students. The programme integrates subjects such as Network Economics, Platform Economics, Economics of Artificial Intelligence, Game Theory, Mechanism Design, Machine Learning for Economics, and High-Frequency Algorithmic Trading, enabling engineering students to develop analytical, technological, and economic expertise alongside their core discipline.

DTU also announced plans to introduce new BTech programmes in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from the 2026-27 session, followed by Computer Science and Engineering and Quantum Technology in the 2027-28 academic year.

Additionally, the university has expanded its skill development initiatives through industry-recognised micro-credential programmes, online certificate courses for working professionals, and a six-week certificate programme in Applied AI, Data Analytics, and Entrepreneurship for students from Class 9 onwards. These initiatives reflect DTU's focus on aligning higher education with evolving industry needs while strengthening innovation, employability, and interdisciplinary learning.
