GATE 2026 Registration Dates Revised, Check New Exam Schedule
- GATE 2026 applications open Aug 28, close Sept 28; late window till Oct 9.
- Exam on Feb 7, 8, 14, 15 with results on Mar 19; new Energy Science paper added.
- Fees set at ₹1,000 for women/SC/ST/PwD, ₹2,000 for others, plus ₹500 late fee.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has revised the registration timelines for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026.
According to the recent update, the application procedure will commence on August 28, 2025, with candidates able to submit applications until September 28, 2025, at the official site — gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Previously, the registration was set to commence on August 25 and end on September 25.
Candidates who miss the standard deadline can still register during the extended period from September 29 to October 9, 2025, by paying a late fee of ₹500. The application procedure includes establishing a login ID, entering educational and personal information, uploading necessary documents, paying the application fee, and submitting the form online.
The GATE 2026 examination is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, with two sessions each day — 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The outcomes will be revealed on March 19, 2026.
This year, IIT Guwahati has added a new Energy Science component to the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper. GATE 2026 will encompass approximately 30 fields, such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and others.

The application fee has been updated as well. Candidates who are female, SC, ST, and PwD need to pay ₹1,000, while the payment for all other candidates is ₹2,000. Individuals applying during the extended timeframe will face the extra late charge.
GATE is among the toughest exams for engineering graduates, providing opportunities for MTech, PhD, and PSU placements throughout India.
