GATE 2027 Registration Delayed, IIT Madras Says Apply Soon

IIT Madras delays GATE 2027 registration again after the application portal does not open on August 27. The official website now says registration will begin soon, with revised dates awaited.
The GATE 2027 application process has seen yet another postponement with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) yet to launch the online application portal. The institute had already rescheduled the beginning of the registration process from August 14 to August 27, 2026, but even then the link for the application is yet to be launched on the scheduled date. According to the official website of GATE 2027, the online registration process will start “soon.”
Organising institute of the examination in GATE 2027 is IIT Madras. The exam offers candidates a chance of securing admission in postgraduate programmes in engineering and technology and related subjects and serves as a benchmark for recruiting candidates in various PSUs.

In light of the updated schedule presented at the GATE 2027 official website, the previously given registration date of August 27 will henceforth be referred to as TBA. The last date for registering without paying a late fee is still mentioned as September 27, 2026, while late fee application forms will continue to be accepted till October 5, 2026. These dates are subject to change, however, till the time a new schedule is announced by IIT Madras.
Application process can be completed through the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System). It is recommended that candidates should have all important documents in place till the time registration becomes available. Official website has specifically asked the candidates to have their documents in place and know about the registration procedure.
The GATE 2027 Examination also undergoes certain modifications. There is now a test paper on Robotics and Automation added to the list of available test papers. The registration process includes the DigiLocker facility, with students being asked to utilize the facility as part of the registration process.
Though there was a delay in registration, the examination schedule still stands. For GATE 2027, the dates set for the examination are February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The notification of city allotment will come out on January 4, 2027, while the results will be declared on March 19, 2027.
This delay brings uncertainty to those aspirants who have prepared themselves in line with the old schedule of registration. It is, thus, recommended that candidates should not depend on the old announced date of opening of GATE 2027 registration and wait for the new registration announcement on the GATE 2027 portal.

GATE marks will be used for postgraduate admissions and recruitment by various institutions through this test. As the application process has not yet started, applicants have some more time to check whether they meet the eligibility criteria, arrange the necessary documents, and acquaint themselves with the new pattern of the examination.
The fresh date for applying will be announced by IIT Madras very soon. Until that, it is advised to refer to only those dates available on the official website of GATE 2027, as this schedule is still liable to change.
