IISc Launches 3 New BTech Courses via JEE Advanced

  • IISc Bengaluru launches three new BTech programmes from 2026–27 academic sessions successfully.
  • Admissions will be conducted through JoSAA counselling using JEE Advanced 2026 examination ranks.
  • New courses focus on aerospace, materials science, computational mechanics, and advanced interdisciplinary engineering.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has announced the launch of three new BTech programmes from the 2026–27 academic sessions, which will expand its undergraduate engineering programmes. The new programmes will offer BTech degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics and Computing. The new courses will be available at the institute together with its current BTech programme in Mathematics and Computing.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 counselling process will use JEE Advanced 2026 ranks to admit students to all four BTech programs. IISc has clarified that students will not need to submit a separate application on the institute’s admission portal for BTech admissions. The official JoSAA portal requires candidates to register and select their preferred IISc programs during choice filling before they can proceed to the counselling process.

IISc developed its new programs to create pathways which students can learn both theoretical concepts and practical research skills and industrial applications. The institute stated that graduates from these programmes will gain interdisciplinary analytical, computational, and engineering skills, preparing them for careers in research, advanced technology industries, and higher studies globally.

The BTech in Aerospace Engineering program will teach students about aerodynamics and propulsion systems and aircraft technologies. The Mechanics and Computing programme will teach students mechanical sciences and computational methods and data-driven engineering. The Materials Science and Engineering course will cover advanced materials and nanotechnology and manufacturing and sustainable engineering solutions. Experts believe these programmes meet the rising need for specialized engineering professionals who work in developing technology fields.

Admission requirements will use JoSAA business rules which apply to IIT admissions. Students must qualify JEE Advanced 2026 after successfully clearing JEE Main 2026. Candidates should also meet Class 12 eligibility requirements with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. The Institute of Technology Roorkee will conduct JEE Advanced 2026 examination on May 17.

IISc Bengaluru has decided to increase its undergraduate engineering programs because the institution wants to establish interdisciplinary educational programs and research activities that focus on creating new solutions. Education experts believe the addition of these programmes will strengthen IISc’s position among India’s premier engineering and scientific research institutions while offering students broader opportunities in advanced technology fields.
