A new scholarship programme aimed at expanding global education opportunities for community college students in the United States is set to launch for the 2026–27 academic year. The Forum on Education Abroad has introduced the Community College Access Scholarship (CCAS) to support students facing financial challenges who aspire to participate in international study programmes.

The project aims to solve the problem of low study abroad participation among community college students who make valuable contributions to undergraduate education in the United States. The scholarship program provides eligible students with financial support that ranges between $3,000 and $5,000 to fund their international educational travel and academic experiences.

The American Institute for Foreign Study supports the scholarship fund which provides $50,000 to fund the initial stage of the program. Approximately 15 students will receive benefits during the first year of the program. The funding can be used for multiple academic expenses, including programme fees, passport and visa costs, travel expenditures, and other essential documentation required for studying abroad. The scholarship will support programmes scheduled between June 1, 2026, and May 31, 2027.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a recognised US community college and complete at least six credit hours within a degree programme. Students must provide evidence of their financial needs by showing they qualify for Pell Grants or by submitting their financial aid papers or by providing a complete account of their financial situation. Applicants must remain enrolled during the 2026–27 academic sessions to qualify.

The official application process for students started on May 1, 2026, which enables students to apply through the official platform of the Forum on Education Abroad. The scholarship program will help community college students eliminate financial obstacles which normally stop them from studying abroad.

The initiative has received approval from education specialists who demonstrate that international experience helps people develop better cultural awareness and communication abilities and work opportunities. The programme will provide students from various economic backgrounds with better access to international educational resources.
