IIT Jodhpur Opens PhD Admissions 2026 Without GATE for BTechs

IIT Jodhpur invites BTech graduates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes with a CGPA of 8.0 or above to apply for direct PhD admission in aerospace engineering without GATE.

The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has opened PhD admission opportunities in Aerospace Engineering for 2026, allowing eligible BTech graduates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 to apply through a direct admission route without appearing for the GATE.

According to the admission announcement, the opportunity is aimed at meritorious engineering graduates interested in pursuing research in aerospace and related technologies. The application deadline for the current admission cycle is October 20, 2026. Candidates are advised to check IIT Jodhpur’s official admission information for the complete eligibility and selection requirements.

The PhD research opportunities cover several areas within aerospace engineering and associated technologies. These include space technology, drones, flight dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, combustion, composite materials, and artificial intelligence and machine learning. The programme is intended for graduates who want to pursue advanced research in aircraft, space and emerging aerospace applications.

Eligibility and Direct Admission Route: BTech graduates from eligible CFTIs with a CGPA of 8.0 or above can apply through the direct PhD route without GATE. Applicants must, however, meet the institute’s applicable academic and departmental requirements. IIT Jodhpur notes that its prescribed eligibility criteria represent minimum requirements and that individual selection committees may impose additional conditions.

The institute’s broader PhD framework generally requires candidates to hold a qualifying engineering or science degree with the prescribed academic performance. Selection may involve written tests and/or interviews depending on the programme and admission category.

IIT Jodhpur has also been expanding direct research pathways for high-performing undergraduate students. In February 2026, the institute signed an MoU with Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), under which eligible BTech students with a CGPA of at least 8.0 and a top-10 batch ranking could be considered for direct PhD admission without GATE or a written examination, subject to an interview.
