Indian Institute of Technology Madras will shortly offer the online registration window for GATE 2026. The organising institute GATE 2026, which is IIT Madras, will most probably announce the official notification and the commencement of the application process in the last week of August 2025 or early September 2025 on the dedicated portal.

GATE 2026 will be held for 30 test papers and candidates will be allowed to take one or two papers (in case the combination is permitted). The exam is planned for February 2026 (possibly the first two weekends) and will be administered in online Computer, Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple sessions.

Information expected from GATE 2026 indicates that students currently in their final year of study or who have graduated from any bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science or Commerce can register for this exam regardless of their age.  The application fee is approximately ₹900 for female, SC and ST candidates and for persons with disabilities (PwD), while all other candidates are charged a fee of approximately ₹1,800 (per subject).

Applications for GATE 2026 will only be accepted online, however candidates may pay the fee through one of four payment methods (net banking, debit/credit card & UPI).  The exam will last three hours and includes two parts: 50 total marks for General Aptitude; and 50 subject-specific questions.

GATE 2026 scores are good for three years after the date of announcement of results for admission to Higher Degree Programs; master's programs, M.TECH, M.E., M.S., and Ph.D. via Participating Institutions (PI) or for employment via Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) e.g.; ONGC; NTPC; IOCL; BHEL and many other organizations.

IIT Madras has not yet released the official brochure or exact dates as of early March 2026, but candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for the notification, information brochure, syllabus updates, and application link. Preparation resources, including previous years’ question papers and mock tests, will also be made available on the portal.
