IIT Madras Launches BS in Management & Data Science

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has introduced a new interdisciplinary undergraduate programme titled Bachelor of Science in Management and Data Science, marking another step toward blending business education with advanced analytics. The course will be offered through the institute’s Department of Management Studies and is designed to prepare students for decision-making in an increasingly data-driven global economy.
The programme focuses on equipping learners with a combination of management knowledge, quantitative skills, and analytical thinking. Students will gain expertise in interpreting data for real-world business applications while developing problem-solving abilities aligned with modern industry needs. Graduates will receive a BS degree from IIT Madras with the same academic standing as other degrees awarded by the institute.
Admissions, course delivery, and career support will be handled by the institute’s Centre for Outreach and Digital Education. The curriculum will follow a hybrid learning model featuring recorded lectures by IIT faculty, along with live interactive sessions, case discussions, and academic mentoring through online forums. Examinations are expected to be conducted either online with remote proctoring or at designated centres across the country.

The first batch is scheduled to begin in June 2026, and applications will remain open until May 31. The programme is accessible to candidates who have completed Class 12 or equivalent qualifications, including diploma holders. Notably, there is no age limit or cap on seats, making it flexible for working professionals and students pursuing other academic courses simultaneously. Admission will be granted either through an internal qualifying process or eligibility to appear for JEE Advanced.
According to the institute, the initiative aims to develop professionals capable of driving digital transformation across sectors such as manufacturing, finance, IT services, consulting, healthcare, and public policy. It also provides pathways for higher studies, research, and entrepreneurship. The institute’s leadership highlighted that integrating management education with data analytics will help learners take informed and responsible decisions in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.
