IIT Roorkee Launches Advanced Certificate in Quantum AI, ML

  • IIT Roorkee launches an advanced certificate in Quantum Computing and AI/ML.
  • Includes hands-on projects with Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum.
  • A six-month course prepares professionals for quantum and AI roles.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has initiated the first batch of the advanced certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML, allowing professionals to enhance their skills for the quantum age.

Students will advance from quantum internet protocols and secure communication to quantum machine learning, engaging in practical projects with Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems.

The six and a half month online certification course, provided through the Continuing Education Centre (CEC) at IIT Roorkee in collaboration with TimesPro, will equip participants for positions in quantum research and development, secure technologies, and artificial intelligence innovation. Students will program and model complex quantum algorithms and utilize QML for practical applications.

According to a statement from IIT Roorkee, students will create real-world QML applications and implement projects in fields such as finance, healthcare, optimization, drug discovery, and image classification while gaining proficiency in production-quality platforms and simulating algorithms with IBM’s and D-Wave’s quantum systems.

Prof. Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator, CEC, IIT Roorkee, said, “At IIT Roorkee, we designed this programme to bridge theory and deployment. Participants will learn to code, simulate, benchmark quantum algorithms and exploit AI/ML methods where quantum advantage is emerging. By combining Qiskit, PennyLane and real hardware access, we prepare engineers and researchers to move prototypes into production-grade pilots across security, optimisation, in finance and healthcare data-intensive applications.”

The program consists of five modules: an introduction to quantum computing and its Applications; Quantum Algorithms and Software; Quantum Communications and Networks; Quantum Machine Learning; and Applications of Quantum Machine Learning. Participants will acquire a practical understanding of quantum communication methods (including Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), teleportation, and quantum cryptography); receive practical experience with Shor’s, Grover’s, and Simon’s algorithms; and execute advanced QML models like QSVMs, QNNs, and Quantum GANs.
