IIT-Bhubaneswar Starts Cybersecurity MTech Program

Synopsis:
Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar launches an industry-linked MTech programme in Cybersecurity for working professionals in collaboration with WhizHack Technologies. The blended-mode course begins July 24 and offers hands-on training in AI-driven security, blockchain security, and cyber defence without requiring GATE qualification.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has launched a new blended-mode MTech programme in Cyber Security specifically designed for working professionals seeking advanced technical expertise without leaving their jobs. The program has been developed to meet the growing need for cybersecurity specialists who are required to handle increasing digital threats and cyberattacks and to maintain secure digital systems that all industries need for their operations.
The newly introduced MTech in Cyber Security follows a flexible blended-learning format that combines online classes with periodic on-campus academic activities and examinations at the IIT Bhubaneswar campus. The institute stated that the programme has been structured to support professionals working in IT, telecom, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and other technology-driven sectors.
According to IIT Bhubaneswar, the programme duration is flexible, which allows students to complete their studies between two and five years based on their learning speed and work obligations. The program requires students to participate in live sessions which IIT faculty members and industry experts deliver, while they also develop practical skills through cybersecurity laboratories and tool-based assignments and capture-the-flag challenges and industry-oriented capstone projects.

The curriculum includes essential components of cybersecurity education which teach students about network security, ethical hacking, cryptography, secure systems, artificial intelligence security systems, digital forensics, risk management procedures, and methods for responding to security breaches. The course developers designed the program to meet current needs of the industry while training students for cybersecurity positions which include roles as security analysts, security engineers, consultants, and compliance specialists.
People who want to apply must show proof of having a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering fields together with two years of suitable professional experience. The blended-mode program at IIT MTech admissions which normally requires a GATE score creates easier entrance for experienced workers who want to obtain advanced qualifications while they maintain their jobs.
The admissions process for the Autumn 2026-27 session is currently active, which allows prospective students to submit their online applications through the official IIT Bhubaneswar portal. The application submission deadline occurs on June 7, 2026, and the start of classes will take place on July 24, 2026.
Education experts believe the launch reflects a broader trend among Indian Institutes of Technology to establish flexible higher education programs which serve the needs of working professionals who study new technology fields. The program will help close the increasing skills shortage in digital security and cyber defense because governments and businesses around the world have made cybersecurity a fundamental requirement for their operations.
