NITK Surathkal Launches Online MTech in AI for 2026

Synopsis:  NITK Surathkal plans to launch an online MTech in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence from 2026–27, expanding digital postgraduate education through partnerships with NSDC and USDC to meet growing AI industry demand.

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, has announced plans to launch an online MTech programme in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence (SP&AI) from the 2026–27 academic years, marking a significant step toward expanding access to advanced technical education through digital learning platforms. The initiative is aimed at students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs seeking industry-relevant postgraduate qualifications without the constraints of traditional on-campus education.

The programme is being introduced as part of a broader collaboration between NITK Surathkal, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and EdTech Company USDC. To support the initiative, the institute has signed a bipartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NSDC and a tripartite MoU involving NSDC and USDC. The partnership is designed to expand access to high-quality online certification and postgraduate programmes while strengthening skill development and professional education opportunities across India.

According to NITK, the online MTech in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence will combine advanced concepts in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and signal processing, and emerging digital technologies. The programme is expected to cater to the growing demand for specialised professionals in AI-driven industries, data analytics, communication systems, automation, and intelligent computing applications. The institute believes the course will help learners gain future-ready technical skills aligned with rapidly evolving industry requirements.

Officials have stated that the online postgraduate programme is part of a larger strategy to broaden NITK’s academic offerings through digital education. In addition to the SP&AI programme, the institute plans to introduce an online MTech in Information Technology, an MBA programme, and other specialised online courses in the coming years. The expansion reflects the growing focus of higher education institutions on flexible learning models and industry-oriented professional training.

The launch also aligns with NITK Surathkal’s increasing emphasis on emerging technologies and artificial intelligence research. The institute has recently undertaken several AI-focused initiatives and innovation projects aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary education and advanced technology development. These efforts are expected to complement the new online MTech programme and create additional opportunities for learners in next-generation technology sectors.

Admissions for the online MTech in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence are expected to open during the 2026–27 academic session. Interested candidates will be able to access detailed information regarding eligibility criteria, admission procedures, and application schedules through the official NITK Surathkal portal. The institute expects the programme to attract a diverse group of learners from across India seeking advanced education in artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
