TEC, IIIT Delhi Sign MoU to Advance Joint Telecom Research

The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical division of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in the Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT Delhi) to collaborate on joint studies, research, and technical contributions related to advanced telecom technologies and global standards activities.

The collaboration seeks to create standards and testing frameworks tailored for India, engage in joint research in telecom and related ICT, investigate future network technologies such as 6G, optical communications, NTNs, etc., and boost India’s involvement in ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Standardization Sector) Study Groups via National Working Groups.

This collaboration seeks to enhance indigenous R&D and boost India’s role in global standardisation efforts by reinforcing India’s input to international standardisation organizations such as ITU and 3GPP.

The partnership will advance the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by enhancing local research, design, and manufacturing in telecommunications – creating India-centric standards, testing frameworks, and domestic solutions that promote national self-sufficiency, safeguard vital communication infrastructure, and lessen reliance on foreign imports.

The MoU aims to enhance India’s innovation pipeline by promoting knowledge sharing, collaborative publications, and partnerships between industry and academia. It will additionally aid in skill enhancement in emerging telecom sectors, foster opportunities for startups focused on next-generation networks, and establish India as a vital player in global digital infrastructure and standards evolution.
