IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics to Launch Semiconductor Courses

IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics establish a Centre of Excellence to offer diploma and BTech-level semiconductor ATMP training, hands-on industry exposure and collaborative research opportunities.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati partners with Tata Electronics to strengthen semiconductor education, skill development and research in India. The two institutions sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on the IIT Guwahati campus, focusing on semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP).
The collaboration aims to develop industry-ready professionals and expand access to specialised semiconductor training, particularly across Assam and the Northeast. The initiative will connect academic institutions, students and industry through technical education, practical training and collaborative research.

Under the partnership, IIT Guwahati will lead the development and delivery of educational programmes, including diploma-level training and BTech-level engineering programmes in semiconductor ATMP. The curriculum will combine classroom instruction with practical, hands-on training to familiarise students with industry processes and technologies.
IIT Guwahati and Tata Electronics will jointly develop course content, educational resources and specialised training modules based on industry requirements. The programmes are intended to equip learners with technical knowledge and practical capabilities relevant to semiconductor packaging and related operations.
The partnership will extend opportunities beyond IIT Guwahati by identifying engineering colleges, universities and polytechnics that can participate in the initiative. Students from these institutions will gain access to hands-on training, while faculty members will receive specialised training to strengthen semiconductor-related teaching and academic capabilities.
Selected students will also have opportunities to undertake training at Tata Electronics. Undergraduate and postgraduate students can participate in collaborative research projects covering semiconductor packaging, assembly, testing and associated technologies.
