The Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was founded in 1949 and the institute boasts the title of first higher foreign language institution established after the founding of New China. The institute has been at the forefront of almost all the educational advancements in the country since its beginning. SISU is the only one of its kind in the country to have 3 doctoral programs in foreign language and literature, political science, and business administration. The university teaches 80 plus languages at home and abroad. At present, the University along
with the participation of other foreign countries has developed a fully formed disciplinary structure of five major disciplines including literature, education, economics, management, and law.

The talent training system of the University has 47 undergraduate majors at home and abroad. The University has taken an initiative to align national and local strategies to create academic think tanks in universities and colleges in the field of language and literature, international relations, global communication,
and regional country studies. The infrastructural facilities provided by the University are the best in its class including a state of the art library with books and other research materials from over 65 different languages. During the 70 years of its existence, the students and faculty members of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) has always played an integral part in the development of the country and have left footprints all over the world.
