The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has invited applications for its Winter Internship Programme 2026, offering eligible students an opportunity to gain practical exposure to human rights issues, laws and policies in India. The four-week programme will be conducted in New Delhi from December 14, 2026, to January 8, 2027. Selected interns who successfully complete the programme will receive a stipend of ₹12,000.

The commission will select up to 100 students for the internship. Eligible candidates must submit their applications online by October 15, 2026, at 6 pm. The programme is open to students pursuing law, postgraduate courses in human rights and eligible social science disciplines at recognised universities.

Applicants must be 28 years old or younger as of October 1, 2026. They must have secured at least 60% marks in Class 12 and in each of the first six semesters of their graduation or five-year integrated degree programme. Students who have already completed an NHRC one-month summer or winter internship are not eligible to apply again.

The internship aims to familiarise participants with the NHRC’s work and provide insight into human rights protection, institutional responsibilities and relevant legal frameworks. Students from disciplines such as political science, sociology, social work, criminology, public administration, economics, history, commerce, anthropology and international relations may also qualify, subject to the programme’s eligibility requirements.

In addition to the stipend, eligible interns travelling from outside Delhi can receive reimbursement for their onward and return journeys by air-conditioned three-tier train, subject to the conditions specified in the official notification.
