Sikkim Launches Free JEE, NEET Coaching With IIT Kanpur

Sikkim has launched CM-SAATHI with IIT Kanpur to provide free JEE and NEET coaching. The programme will offer video lectures, study materials, mock tests and doubt support to more than 2,000 students across over 40 schools.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has launched the CM-SAATHI initiative to provide free coaching and academic support to students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The programme has been developed in collaboration with IIT Kanpur under the Government of India’s SATHEE initiative, with the objective of improving access to quality entrance-exam preparation across the state.

The initiative is designed particularly to address disparities in access to competitive-exam coaching. Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds often face difficulties in accessing private coaching programmes, making free technology-enabled academic support an important component of the state’s education strategy. The programme is expected to benefit more than 2,000 students studying across over 40 government and private schools in Sikkim.

CM-SAATHI will provide students with expert video lectures, comprehensive study materials, mock tests, practice questions and doubt-resolution support. The programme is intended to extend structured preparation to students in their homes and schools, allowing them to access learning resources without the financial burden associated with conventional coaching centres.

The collaboration with IIT Kanpur also includes capacity-building for Science and Mathematics teachers. By strengthening teachers’ academic and instructional capabilities, the initiative seeks to create a wider support ecosystem for students preparing for national-level examinations. This approach combines digital learning resources with institutional and teacher support to improve the quality of preparation available within the state.

The launch builds on Sikkim’s existing efforts to expand access to competitive-examination preparation, including the Lakshya Centre of Excellence. The Chief Minister has also urged the Ministry of Education and IIT Kanpur to explore extending similar academic support to students preparing for other national examinations, including CUET, CLAT, NDA and UPSC Foundation programmes.

The initiative comes as Sikkim continues to position education access, digital learning and competitive-exam support as key components of its youth-development agenda. By combining IIT-level academic resources with state-level implementation, CM-SAATHI aims to widen opportunities for students seeking admission to leading engineering and medical institutions.
