The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has opened applications for its specialized law and public policy programmes for the 2026 academic year, offering aspiring students an opportunity to pursue advanced interdisciplinary courses at one of India’s premier institutions.

Prospective candidates can now apply for the LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law), LLM, and the Master’s in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG) programmes. These courses are designed to blend legal education with public policy insights, helping graduates prepare for dynamic careers in law, governance, and policy-making.

The deadline for submitting online applications is February 20, 2026, and applicants are encouraged to carefully review the admission guidelines and eligibility criteria before applying through the official IIT Kharagpur portals at iitkgp.ac.in/llb-llm and iitkgp.ac.in/mpplg.

The law programmes are offered by the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), which is the only law school within the IIT system that specializes in intellectual property and technology law. It leverages IIT Kharagpur’s strong foundation in engineering and technology to provide future-oriented legal education.

The LLB (Honours in Intellectual Property Law) is a three-year full-time degree aimed especially at graduates from engineering, science, technology, medicine, and related fields who wish to transition into legal practice focused on innovation and technology.

The LLM programme is a two-year postgraduate course offering specializations such as Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law, and International Law, catering to those seeking deeper academic and professional law expertise.

The MPPLG is a two-year postgraduate degree that integrates public policy, legal studies, and governance, preparing students for leadership roles across government, industry, think tanks, and academia.
