A State that is setting the Standard for Education

The government of Tamil Nadu allotted Rs. 3,627.93 Crore for the higher education department in the last fiscal year. In 2013, the government allotted Rs. 650 Crore under the scheme and it benefited 2,73,675 students. This can serve as an example for all states in the country. By 2030, India will be amongst the youngest nations in the world. With nearly 140 million people in the college-going age group, one in every four graduates in the world will be a product of the Indian education system. However, the system needs of iron out few creases before we can claim that our educational institutions can create graduates who can compete on the global arena.

During a recent conversation with the Vice Principal of an institute in Bangalore, he revealed that one of the greatest drawbacks of the Indian system of education is the lack of emphasis on research and development. As a result Indian students are believed to lack creativity and ingenuity. However there are Universities in the country such as Hindusthan Institute of technology (HITS) as featured on our cover, that are making an active effort to cover up the gap by introducing changes. The university has setup 15 such centers in STEM disciplines to provide sophisticated analytical equipment to the scientific community for their advanced research at nominal charges.
