Like Facebook that was born at Harvard, Google at Stanford, college campuses have always been an inspiring space for young entrepreneurs. Who knows, the next giant might take birth in an Indian campus! Operating from Bengaluru, the hub of start-ups in India, BMSIT&M is definitely a strong contender for that. Faculty and students at BMSIT&M are passionate about new ideas and innovations. Several current students are running their start-ups and many more ideas are getting nurtured there. The incubation centre of the institute has been a spring board for entrepreneurial ventures of many students. "The spirit of innovation and culture of entrepreneurship is the flavour of our campus. Students engage in a lot of project worksranging from the design of Institution's website to design of super-automobiles, largely interdisciplinary. Management has also funded selected ones," says Dr. Mohan Babu G.N, Principal, BMSIT&M.

While, most student start-ups are in commercial space, the institute also takes pride in showcasing some students' brilliant social enterprises too. Melange Foundation is one such social initiative, which started its campaign 'Each One Help One' from the campus. Now, the team Melange has collaborated with 'Walk Free,' an Australian foundation that aims to end modern slavery and oppression in society. Bharat, a student of IS&E, who also drives Walk Free at BMSIT&M, says that these social enterprises in the campus help students to imbibe strong valuesin life, while they prepare for work in the corporate world.

The Partial Course Delivery system is an extra-ordinary initiative of BMSIT&M, which ropes in industry practitioner to deliver a part of the course contents.

Dr. Mohan Babu says, "We conduct a number of interdisciplinary events in the campus to cater to the need of the students who care for a future in an entrepreneurial venture or a job." 'Tech-Transform,' a program on entrepreneurship witnesses entrepreneurs from the industry and alumnicommunity sharing their success stories with students. Another initiative, 'Start-up Fest' brings to the fore the opportunities and challenges for new businesses inspiring students to carefully craft their-own ideas and ventures. Similarly, the institute conducts 'Employers'Day' where it hosts a number of employersfrom reputed companies to share their experience and understanding of the current trends in the industry and market. "Our interaction with the industry is very strong, which not only exposes our students to newer technologies and engineering methodologies, but makes them ready to work from the day one of their joining," opines P. Ganesh, Training and Placement Officer, BMSIT&M.

BMSIT&M is an institutional member of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), member of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Melton Foundation USA, IUCEE (Indo Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education). With such collaborations, the institute has implemented many innovative practices in the campus, which are rare in the usual context of Indian technical education. Students' industry internship is riding high in the institute's priority. Stressing the need for faculty members to keep abreast with latest technologies and business practices, Dr. Mohan Babu adds, "At BMSIT&M, it is not just students who undergo industry internship, but all faculty members themselves undergo industry internships in reputed companies. Both, faculty and students bring cutting-edge industrial information to the classroom making it an excellent platform for theexchange of high-quality intellectual content." "This is rather unique," says Dr. Annamma Abraham, Vice Principal, BMSIT&M.

With a focus on Outcomes Based Education, the institute encourages project based learning from the first year of its students life. The students can take up projects in their area of interest relating to what they study and complete it with the guidance of their faculty members. The Partial Course Delivery system is another extra-ordinary initiative of BMSIT&M, which ropes in industry practitioner to deliver a part of the course contents. Over the years, BMSIT&M hasperfected the teaching learning process, greatly improved the quality of faculty members and strengthened industrial collaboration, which have made the institute outstanding. The lush green campus and world-class infrastructure and a healthy learning environment are also the highlight of the institute. A natural consequence of all these efforts by the institute is successful students, whether it is in academics, placement or entrepreneurship.

The institute is galloping ahead under the guidance of its Chairman Sri. K.Jairaj, IAS (Retd.), Former Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka,to attain the grand vision that it has set for itself, 'to emerge as one of the finest technical institutions of higher learning developing engineering professionals who are technically competent, ethical and environment friendly for betterment of the society.'
