An attempt to understand and conduct the systematical study of what is unknown is termed research. Research gives birth to innovations and developments all industries. Tinkering with tools and documenting the results are students of EGS Pillay Engineering College. Established in 1995, the institute\\\'s experienced faculty plays an instrumental role in the research and developmental activities within the institute. The R & D programs are executed by the Dr. Misra, the Director (R&D) of the Institution. The Director (R&D) has continuous contact with the Head of the Departments and Faculty members to monitor person oriented projects, student\\\'s mini projects and team projects,says

Following its practices, the institute has been graced with crucial industry tie-ups with leading organizations such as ICTACT, CISCO Systems, National Instruments, IBM Rational Suite, Oracle Academy, Praveen Institute of Radiation technology, NDT Instruments Pvt Ltd, Alfine Technical &training services and EMC Academic Associate. These associations enable the institute to create courses for faculty development programs such as National Instruments course - Digital Design, VLSI Design, Autocad, AutoDesk, NAT Courses, EMC Academic Associate on Cloud Computing, CISCO Networking, Oracle Java Programming, IBM Rational Seed Programme, Piping Technology and People Empowering People.The institute has a separate institution-industry interaction cell that invites experts from industries for special lectures and workshops where students can benefit from hearing first-hand experiences about the nature of the corporate world. The cell has built a close rapport with the local industries such as Marg Port, CPCL,ONGC, Pondicherry State Thermal Power Corporation, Nagapattinam District small Industries Association, and Boat Building unit says Prof M. EGS Pillays relationship with the organizations goes beyond the traditional knowledge transfer modicum that most institutes in the country have, We have been offering consultancy services to several manufacturing and building construction industries. We have established a material testing centre for testing materials. The Consultancy services centre has earnedRs. 7, 00,000 in form of testing fees over the last four years, which is a praiseworthy achievement in itself, says Paramesvaran.
Students of the institute have an impressive track record of being placed in organizations such as Cognizant, TCS, L&T, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Alcatel, and Metech Engineering amongst numerous other names. The tale of how the students of EGS Pillay have landed such laudable placements is told in the training and placement cell. A separate Training and Placement department headed by the Placement Director Prof A. Sivabalu and Supporting Staff have been established with a view to enrich and organize curriculum to enhance the experience of the students to meet the needs of the employment market, says Paramesvaran. A series of Pre Training Assessments are administered to each and every individual and mapped on the skill-will matrix with support of Monstercollege, Aspiring Minds and freshersworld.com. The students are then coached, guided, mentored, supported or trained depending on the needs of the students. In order to measure the training effectiveness the students will also be subjected to a series of Post Training Assessment after completion of each of the training module. The training modules are developed by skilled content developers. The sessions are structured in such a way that the participation of the students is given as much importance as the participation of the facilitator in the session. Employability enhancement programs such as Business English course, Language Lab, E Box Programming Coding system, Communication, Aptitude and soft skills training been conducted regularly throughout the course says T. The Training and Placement department looks after the students training for capacity building in various aspects and career guidance. M.O.Us has been signed with leading industries and other organizations which conduct specialized programmes in soft skill training, communication enhancement and technological enhancement for the benefit of the students and staff members as well. The T & P department takes lead role in inviting several reputed recruiting companies every year such as Wipro, Tech Mahindra, CTS, TCS, Infosys, Zebronics, Windcare India, Vinsinfotech, and HCL.
The institute has in place a feedback mechanism for faculty from students which helps in taking corrective measures by the teachers and in motivating them to rise up to the occasion.
