A young entrepreneur with a vision to pay back more to the society started an establishment, which has now grown like a banyan tree into one of the largest educational institutes in India-Lovely Professional University (LPU). This university is presently all time preferred name for aspiring students across the globe. Established in 2001, LPU was initiated by Late Shri Baldev Raj Mittal in the form of an Institute of Management under the banner of Lovely Group. Only within a span of some years, LPU now has a huge number of alumni working in more than 300+ global and Indian organizations. Lovely Professional University (LPU) is the largest university in India in terms of number of students on a single campus. LPU has more than 30,000 fulltime students on its 600 acre campus which is located on Jalandhar-Delhi National Highway at Phagwara (Punjab), India. The University campus has many architecturally striking buildings with all the requisite facilities for the students available therein. More than 18,000 students reside in 6 boys' and 6 girls' hostels on the campus. The University has a rich diversity in its students' population, with students coming from all the 29 states of India and 35+ countries including the USA, China, Colombia, Thailand, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Tanzania, Nigeria, Congo, Rwanda and more. On the occasion of 5th convocation this year, one of the most celebrated religious leaders of the world, Nobel Laureate for Peace and the great spiritual leader of Tibet His Holiness Dalai Lama was present, who appreciated LPU environment open heartedly. He invoked LPU students, "You are the 21st century people and should make this a century of peace, love and compassion all over the globe." In another phase of the event, Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom Dr Pakalitha B Mosisili honoured about 200 Ph.D Scholars, Gold Medalists and Toppers of various LPU academic programs of LPU regular and distance education.
LPU has now emerged as one of the leading universities of India and is duly recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC). LPU is also a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). LPU is also recognized by the statutory bodies of the Government of India in diverse fields of higher education including National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Distance Education Council (DEC), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Council of Architecture (COA) and Bar Council of India (BCI).
LPU has broken all its previous placement records by setting record in North India with largest number of 610 engineering students' placement by a single company, in a single day, on the single campus. In addition, international placements by Ritz Carlton Hotel USA, Qatar Airways Doha & Al Rakha Group Dubai at allowance up to Rs 22 Lakh also made LPU to clog up one of the highest placement packages' record in the region. LPU is credited to produce students according to industry requirement. Today LPU students are working in top global companies including Google, Microsoft, Facebook, IBM, Cognizant and other 300+ Global Brands like Infosys, HCL, Bharti Airtel, Accenture, Nokia, Siemens, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Indian Army, Indian Navy, HDFC Bank, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, TATA, Wipro, Eli Lilly, Asian Paints, Aon Hewitt, ITC, Headstrong, Bose Corporation, Asahi India, AMW, Ashok Leyland, Pepsico, Oberoi's etc.
The insertion of employability is put in through a rigorous training, which takes note of both academic curriculum and industrial requirement. "We are associated with various tech-application organizations to expose the students to sessions from industry experts and also by providing practical exposure on state-of-the-art tools and licensed software," claims Ashok Mittal, LPU Chancellor. University is capable of obtaining such an industry interface with a strong liaison with the industry for continuous monitoring of changing trends and conditions in the global job market. LPU has tie ups with numerous industrial bodies for training students in the latest business and technological demands and other knowledge related programs. Some of these tie-ups are with Reliance Money, Siemens PLM, Autodesk and many more for direct-indirect training, academics, entrepreneurship and skill-development. In addition, LPU also has an entrepreneurial tie-up with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, an autonomous body and not-for-profit institution that has been set up in 1983 under the sponsorship of apex financial institutions, namely the IDBI, IFCI, ICICI and SBI.

Born in Jalandhar on 10th of September 1964, he completed his Graduation and LLB from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. His professional journey has been quite interesting as he successfully ventured into Automobile business and then into Education. His clarity in work structure and ability to take sound strategic decisions has equipped LPU to make steady progress. He is continuously attempting to provide quality education accessible to the students for the growth of a better generation, national and global scenario.
