Established by the Vokaligara Sangha in 1980, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, in affiliation to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS); stands as a distinguished institution that celebrated its silver jubilee in 2006.

Functioning since 1981, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences is a premier institution that is permanently recognized by the Medical Council of India for running MBBS Course since its establishment and also running Post-graduate degree/diploma courses since 1991-92 and these courses are in recognition by Government of India. The institution is also recognized by General Medical Council, United Kingdom; World Health Organization and The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, London.

It inculcates values to impart training to medical students to be competent in the management of health problems of the individual and the community, commensurate with his/her position as a member of the society and familiarize with the national health programmes.
