RMK Engineering College: Embarking on an Unprecedented Journey

An ardent vibe rose off the ground as the students cheered, tossing their square academic caps with the contentment of spending four years in a nest that has enlivened their dreams and given wings to their aspirations. It is the day of graduation at RMK Engineering College where a timeline of four years comes to a closure where everyone is enquiring about their career choices after college. The Institute believes they have not ended their services to their students at the graduation. "We believe and take it up as a responsibility upon us to provide the right career options to our students," says a determined R.M. Kishore, Vice Chairman, RMK Group of institutions.

When asked about the subject of providing the right career choices, Kishore says, "Higher Educational Institutions fulfill their purpose only when they have their students placed according to the domains of their aspiration. As a result RMK Engineering College has achieved a milestone in providing close to a 100 percent placements across various engineering streams such as mechanical, civil, electronics, software, IT and telecommunications."

The industry only recruits individuals with good knowledge of the workings and the trends of the field. RMK Engineering College provides industrial exposure to its students through facets like the 45 hours Communication Skills Business English Certification by M/s. Cambridge ESOL India in its campus. The institute's dynamic accountability in its market ready graduates is held by the rigid focus its MoUs have. Tie-ups with conglomerates like TCS, Infosys, IBM, Wipro and Cisco give us a gist of the focus the institute places in graduating engineers of a new magnitude.

Centers of Excellence that have been known as the key in providing industry insight have been set up at the institute in partnerships with Mitsubishi, Hitachi Solutions India, Ericsson India , iOS and various other corporate giants. Visiting lectures and industrial visits follow suit of these collaborations in the quest to produce a new breed of engineers.

The Rise of the Entrepreneurial Lycans

In its eventful journey of 20 years since its inception in 1995, an observation was made by the authorities at RMK. "Placing students in the top companies has been the ultimate goal of many institutions. In this scenario, entrepreneurial ideas usually go unnoticed," says the Vice Chairman, R.M. Kishore, "it is to cater to these ideas; RMK Engineering College has given rise to its Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Centre.� IEDC is established by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology, and Government of India in the academic year 2011-2012 and depicts the sheer importance the institute imparts in giving rise to entrepreneurial enterprises.

A testimonial number of projects and products developed by students have been developed and emerged to the fore at the institute. A project titled 'Wireless Keyboard for Visually Impaired' done by a student of RMK Engineering College has won the ISTE Manakula Vinayagar award for the Best Student Project by ISTE-TN&P section. A laundry start-up called 'My Wash' is an exclusive enterprise started by an alumnus of the institute that had received a venture capital of $3.8 Million from a US based company and has today become a convenience to a lot of civilians. In these sheer methods, the institute uplifts independent spirits of its students.

A stroll in the campus at RMK Engineering College makes one aware of the sprawling environment the authorities create for uplifting ideas in making the perfect ambience for nurturing thoughts through quality education. 60 acres of lush green environment, and exceptional infrastructure facilities including adequate class rooms and seminar halls for respective departments have made the institute the dignified recipient of the coveted 'Clean and Green Campus' award by the Rotary Club of Chennapatna. Situated in the picturesque backdrop at Kavaraipettai, Gummidipoondi Taluk at a distance of 30 km from Chennai, RMK Engineering College is managed by Lakshmikanthammal Education Trust. Its motive to be a fosterer of Technical & Higher education, Training & Research in various branches of Engineering and Science & Technology is upheld high and clear with hard earned efforts in its pursuit. Additional Magnanimity is added by the emphasis to inculcate among the youth, a sense of discipline to mould them as professionals with integrity and character. "Our Objectives have always been to fuel the dreams of young aspirants and give wings to their technical dreams. That doesn't mean we just want to give out engineers to the world. We take it on us to give a new breed of technicians who could lead the world and industry in a new direction. To do unprecedented things has been our motivation and we aspire to be driven by this in the coming years," concludes Kishore as he walks down the dais after addressing the gathering at the graduation ceremony.

He is the Vice Chairman of RMK Engineering College. He is a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Madras and has acquired his Masters degree in Business administration from University of Huddersfield, UK. As a young member of the team, he has been managing the RMK group of Educational Institutions with full time participation of the Management and guidance provided by professors, the college has achieved great heights in the field of technical education.
