R V College of Engineering was established in 1963 with three engineering branches namely Civil, Mechanical and Electrical. One of the earliest self-financing engineering colleges in the country. Today, RVCE offers 13 Under Graduate Engineering programs, 16 Master Degree programs and Doctoral Studies. An institution run by Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST), RVCE is an Autonomous college, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi. Today, R V College of Engineering is standing out among the 4000 colleges in India due to the five best practices that it follows - Outcome Based Education (OBE) with a focus on Experiential learning, interdisciplinary research, good governance, entrepreneurial culture, sustainable and inclusive technologies are the pillars of success. "By 2025, RVCE plans to be among the 300 top institutes in Asia increasing up to 15 percent of the revenue obtained only from research and consultancy work fostered in the college and also setting up startups, which would promote more entrepreneurial ventures. Located about 13km from the heart of Bangalore City the Silicon Valley of India, on Mysore Road, RV College of Engineering boasts of a sprawling campus spread over an area of 16.85 acres (16.43 guntas). Set in sylvan surroundings, it has an ideal ambience to stimulate the teaching-learning process, helping in bringing out skilled and disciplined Engineers. The institute is also rated amongst one of the top ten self-financing Engineering Institutions in the country. The current annual student intake for Undergraduate Programmes & Post Graduate Programmes in Engineering is in excess of 1500. With its highly qualified and dedicated faculty, RVCE utilizes its expertise in various disciplines to conduct Research and Development for Industry and Defence establishments in the country.

RVCE offers 145 well-furnished class rooms and tutorials, most of which are equipped with Multimedia Projectors supporting modern teaching techniques. The institution has 2500+ computers, 13 Air-conditioned seminar halls spread over the Campus. Spacious Laboratories/workshops with latest equipment catering to the respective programs. Adding to this, the Interdisciplinary Research laboratories has latest equipments and 82 software including facility for semiconductors device and integrated circuit fabrication. The institution has established various Centres of Excellence viz. Macroelectronics, Internet of Things, Automotive Mechatronics, Smart Antenna Systems, Computational Genomics, Automation, e-Mobility, Quantum Information and Technology, Hydrogen & Green Technology Research and Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Data Science.

The college is home to fully equipped Placement and Training department with seminar hall, Group Discussion and interview rooms. The central Library of RVCE is spread over 2000 sqm. space which holds 172682 Volumes of knowledge resource, digital Library, 55808 Titles, 29000 E-Books and 5686 E-journals. Data Centre, Internet facility of 1000 MbPS bandwidth, 980 KWA of Diesel generator backup and 0.5 MW Roof Top Solar Power in all buildings. The entire campus is covered with Wi-fi facility for faculty and students. The college also has six bedded Health Centre with one isolation ward, Indoor Basketball court and indoor shuttle Badminton court, Lawn Tennis court, Football and cricket grounds, Multi Gym Facility. The four boys Hostel blocks in the campus that can accommodate about 1299 students and one girl's hostels that can accommodate about 420 students. Other facilities offered by RVCE include Post Office, Bank with ATM facility, Girls Common Room, Spacious Food Court to accommodate over 1000 students and 5 different varieties of cuisines.
"In 2018, the institution also revised its syllabus to give more importance to the skill-based learning method. Now, everything is experience-based learning in the institute. The curriculum of every program has been developed not only to meet the Program Outcomes (POs) but also emphasis is on inclusiveness through interdisciplinary courses and Experiential Learning. Courses on Environment, Engineering Biology, Constitution of India, Entrepreneurship, Intellectual Property Rights, Sustainable Materials and several interdisciplinary electives are included in the curriculum. The programs are designed with requisite number of foundation courses, advanced coursesSWEBOK, MOOCS, NPTEL, QEEE, TEQIP, IUCEE, IEEE, Coursera, industry-based electives and laboratories, to facilitate enhancement of competence of the students in all the relevant domains and render them employable, prepare them for higher studies, entrepreneurship and public service. The college also introduced project-based learning and looking into ICT enabled teaching-learning in many subjects. All the faculty members are now trained in making online content and they are always ready to learn newer things and deliver it to the students in a better way", shares Dr. Subramanya.

Shaping Professionals with Unique Pedagogies
RVCE abides by to adopt the mantra of transmitting Outcome-Based Education (OBE) with a focus on experiential learning, interdisciplinary research, good governance, entrepreneurial culture, sustainable and inclusive technologies. In the last 15 years, the institution has been working on various research and innovation processes. The institution has about 15 ongoing research projects sponsored by DRDO, ISRO, NRB, AICTE, UGC, VGST and many more which sums up to Rs. 20 Crores. Adding to these, the institution has 14 Research Centres carrying out Research and Consultancy in various domains, other than offering Ph.D./M.Sc. Engineering programs.
Majority of the RVCE faculty members hold an experience of ten to fifteen years in academics and many having Ph.Ds. FDPs, industrial visits, seminars, conferences and other such events are organized for faculty by the institute to keep abreast with the changing trends. The institution has 22 professional institutions viz. IEEE, CSI, CII, ISACA, QCFI, FPSI, IICI, SAE, ISTE, IETE and more. Also, the institution organizes capacity enhancement programs for faculty members who are involved in research and consultancy activities. The institution has filed 14 Patents since last three years, of which 4 has been published in the Official Indian Patent Journal and 2 Patents were granted during this year. The institution also supports faculty to visit International Universities and Premier Institutions in the country for joint collaborations. RVCE faculty members have also won several awards at National and International level and are Members in Universities / State Government / Central Government Bodies (Selection / Expert Committees.
