Sister Nivedita University was established through the enactment of the Sister Nivedita University Act, 2017 and commenced operation from 2018 under the dynamic leadership of their Hon'ble Chancellor, Shri Satyam Roychowdhury. SNU is deeply inspired by the thoughts & teachings of Swami Vivekananda & Sister Nivedita. Thus Sister Nivedita University was established in transforming the educational scenario by providing quality education, empowering women and promoting entrepreneurship among faculty members and students as a tool of economic development. The mission of SNU is fostering an educational environment comprehensive in terms of both curriculum design and knowledge dissemination. The courses we provide are Bachelor in Mass Communication & Journalism Hons, Masters in Mass Communication & Journalism. B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Animation & Graphics and Post Graduate Diploma and Certificate course in Animation & Graphics. The courses we offer are industry-oriented, practical-based and the software and equipment we use are updated as per industry standards including the ones for radio production and radio programs.

For editing software, we use Final Cut Pro, for Design we use Photoshop, Coral, InDesign & Adobe premiere and for animation we have 2D 3D & Maya. We also include community outreach program which is a part of the course structure and give students projects to cover. Internship and trainings are a part of their academic structure and they are graded for their Internships in 3rd semester. We have SNU radio live which is a part of SNU project, SNU Reel, and live TV where we run all these live programs. We also have a Radio station and recording room- where we have radio programs interviews, live shows etc. running 24/7. The Mac room with edit suits is available for students for their editing practical for FCP. We have SNU chronicle which is a portal where all the information video content of SNU are available and we also have SNU Post- a newsletter published twice a month where we cover news updates which are managed and implemented by the students".

At a time when the industry-academia gap is increasing, SNU aims to tackle this scenario through industry collaboration and adding more the industry-institute connect at SNU, Prof. (Dr.) Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay says, "Since we are a University which promotes research, we have collaborations, tie ups and Memorandum of Understanding with various industries and research organisations both at the national and International level. Internships and placements are with top notch corporate brands and we even encourage students to take research as a career option. We are emphasizing on industrial collaboration and we try to match Education 4.0 with Industry 4.0. We tailor students as per the industrial requirement and have fostered a brilliant industry academia relationship which is mutually beneficial for both.
