Student Engagement: Sri Sairam College of Engineering

Formerly known as Shirdi Sai Engineering College, Sri Sairam College of Engineering was established in the year 1997 by a well-known philanthropist and Social Worker M.J.F Lion Leo Muthu, whose motto was to build a better nation through quality education. Today, under the visionary leadership of the CEO, Sai Prakash Leo Muthu, Sairam Institutions are continuously marching towards global standards in technical education. Being one of the top rated institutions in south-India, Sri Sairam College of Engineering is perhaps one of the first Institutions to implement Total Quality Management (TQM) practices, which include Quality circles, 5S, Kaizen, Suggestion Box, Circle Meetings and many more. This has brought revolutionary change in the campus to become lean and goal centric institution.

With the establishment of modern Students Convention Center and Research and Development centers in the campus, in the institution has taken a giant leap in inculcating the research culture among the students. "Several initiatives of our R & D center are now at product development stage, which will soon transform our budding engineers as proud Entrepreneurs. Some innovative projects like E-BIKE, GoKart, Autonomous AUV, Solar car, IoT based waste management system in High raise buildings and many more done by our students highly applauded with awards and rewards at National & International level," proudly says, Dr. Y. Vijayakumar, Principal, Sri Sairam College of Engineering. To innovate, research and develop in the technological realm, various government and funding agencies like AICTE, DST, VTU, KSCST, IEI, VGST and many more have sanctioned and approved nearly about Rs. 2 crores of grants towards projects. At present, the institution specifically concentrating R&D on 3D Printing, Composites, Renewable energy, Embedded system design, Adhoc Networks and so on.

"One of our core objectives is to promote knowledge based and technology driven projects which are useful to the present society by harnessing young student minds and their highly innovative potential brain in an academic environment. This enables them to have hands-on experience on the technology platform," says Dr. Y. Vijayakumar. Helping the institution in this mission is its highly qualified faculty members, who hail from all the states of India to bring a perfect blend of industry and academic Institutions experience to the classrooms. At Sri Sairam College of Engineering, apart from teaching, the faculty members play a vital role as mentors where they continuously monitor and help the students under their mentorship to excel in Academics as well as in other co curricular & extracurricular activities.

The college has positive relationship with the vibrant organizations like Fanuc, NTTF, Kay Jay Forgings, Videocon-Applicomp and Themis & Nomos online services, which are allowing our students to work in real time industry projects. As a result, Sri Sairam College of Engineering has always been able to provide good placement opportunities to the students in different Companies. "The institution is in constant touch with corporates, foreign universities and Public Sector Undertakings mainly to understand the ever-growing need of society, accordingly we are taking major steps to convert the students" innovative ideas into projects and further nurturing them into products and patents through our incubation center," concludes Dr. Y. Vijayakumar.

Dr. Y. Vijayakumar graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year 1984 from Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering, S.V. University " Tirupati, A.P and subsequently acquired Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut (Kerala) and Ph. D in Industrial Engineering (OR & SQC) from Sri Krishna Devaraya University - Anantapur A.P. He has five years of industrial experience and 26 years of teaching experience in both teaching UG and PG.
