Rooted in the city of Amsterdam, The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a public university established in 1632 by municipal authorities. UvA is the third oldest university in the Netherlands. The university offers an academic environment with high quality training. The university is organised into seven faculties namely Humanities, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Economics and Business, Science, Law, Medicine, and Dentistry. The university aims to ensure its programs match the talents and ambitions of all those students who make a conscious and motivated decision to study at the UvA. The university has developed broad, interdisciplinary degree programs such as interdisciplinary Social Sciences, Psychobiology, Future Planet Studies, Biomedical Sciences, Natural and Social Sciences and the Liberal Arts and Science program at the Amsterdam University College (in collaboration with VU University Amsterdam).

The University of Amsterdam is the right place for national and international students, lecturers and scientists, and the institute has close ties to researchers and institutions abroad. With a strong international orientation, the University offers various 'international classrooms' during the Master's phase. The Master's programs provide education in English. Master's students are also encouraged to explore the wider world by taking part in a summer school abroad or an international internship. With classes taught in English, the Master programs are highly attractive to international students. This in turn gives an immediate boost to the students learn to interact and collaborate with their counterparts from other countries and cultures. During the Bachelor's phase, the UvA encourages students to go abroad and gain international academic experience. The University also offers tailor-made programs.
