The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) and the Coventry University Group (CUG) of the United Kingdom have formalized a landmark partnership aimed at transforming healthcare research through cutting‑edge artificial intelligence and data science innovation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on 2 March 2026, marks a significant step in strengthening academic and research cooperation between the two globally recognized institutions.

The agreement was signed during a visit to the IIT Guwahati campus by a senior research delegation from CUG, led by Professor Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Research). The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, and key representatives from both universities, highlighting the shared commitment to expand collaborative research in artificial intelligence (AI) and healthcare.

Under the terms of this strategic partnership, the two institutions will pursue joint research initiatives, academic and faculty mobility programs, and co‑supervised doctoral studies focused on applying AI and data science to address pressing healthcare challenges. One of the core objectives is the development of dual‑awarded PhD programmes that combine academic rigor with real‑world impact, helping cultivate a new generation of research leaders with global perspectives.
