Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration: Preparing Globally Minded Business Leaders for an Evolving World

By Randy D. Kearns, DHA, Professor - Interim Dean

The landscape of business education has undergone a profound transformation over the past decade. Employers today expect graduates to possess far more than theoretical management knowledge; they seek professionals who can navigate digital transformation, interpret data, think critically, lead diverse teams, and make informed decisions in an increasingly interconnected global economy.

As artificial intelligence, business analytics, sustainability, and international commerce reshape industries, business schools are reimagining their curricula to ensure graduates remain relevant and future-ready. Equally important is the ability to combine academic rigor with practical industry exposure, enabling students to understand how business concepts translate into real-world impact.

Against this backdrop, the Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration at LSU New Orleans has established itself as a business school that balances academic excellence with industry relevance and global engagement. With a legacy spanning more than five decades, the college has consistently evolved alongside changing business realities while remaining committed to accessible, high-quality management education.

Through internationally accredited programs, strong employer engagement, a globally diverse student community, and a curriculum that embraces emerging technologies, the college continues to prepare graduates capable of succeeding across industries and international markets.

Building Business Education Around Global Relevance

Located in New Orleans, one of North America's most internationally connected commercial hubs, the Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration benefits from an ecosystem where global trade, logistics, healthcare, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship converge. The college recognizes that modern business education must extend beyond regional priorities while remaining deeply connected to local business and industry needs.

The institution serves more than 75,000 alumni across the Greater New Orleans region while educating students from over 63 countries worldwide. This international diversity creates classrooms where students gain exposure to multiple cultural, economic, and business perspectives, reflecting the realities of today's global marketplace.

Academic excellence remains central to the college's identity. Its business programs hold the prestigious AACSB accreditation, while its accounting program has earned separate AACSB accreditation, an achievement attained by only a small percentage of business schools globally.

The MBA program has also earned recognition as one of the leading programs in the New Orleans metropolitan area, reflecting the institution's longstanding commitment to quality management education.

Preparing Industry-Ready Professionals

The Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration believes that effective management education must bridge classroom learning with professional practice. Accordingly, experiential learning is embedded throughout its academic offerings.

Students benefit from internship opportunities, practical business projects, international case studies, and close interaction with industry professionals. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by international students, particularly those studying under visa regulations, the college works proactively with employers to create meaningful experiential learning opportunities that support career development.

In addition to the traditional landscape of business school undergraduate programs such as finance, accounting, management, marketing, healthcare, and hospitality, the breadth of graduate programs further strengthens career readiness. In addition to its traditional Master's in Business

Administration (MBA) and Executive MBA programs, the college offers specialized master's degrees in Finance (MFin), Accounting (MAcc), Healthcare Management (MSHCM), and Hospitality & Tourism Management (MHTM).

The program is anchored by the internationally renowned Doctor of Philosophy in Financial Economics (PhD). These programs are designed to address evolving workforce requirements while responding to industry-specific demands across multiple sectors.

The college also maintains close relationships with employers to ensure academic programs continue reflecting current business realities. Industry leaders and alumni regularly provide curriculum feedback to ensure classroom learning is aligned with employer expectations.

Technology, Innovation, and Global Business Perspectives

As digital technologies continue reshaping industries, the college has placed increasing emphasis on emerging business technologies. Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, and digital decision-making are becoming integral components of business education, with dedicated AI-focused courses currently under development.

Rather than encouraging students to depend entirely on AI-generated outputs, the institution emphasizes responsible adoption of technology. Students are taught to use AI as a decision-support tool while strengthening their own analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

This balanced approach ensures graduates understand both the opportunities and limitations of emerging technologies.

According to the Professor - Interim Dean, Randy D. Kearns, “Global business education extends beyond technology. Through academic collaborations with universities in China and Austria, alongside the naturally international business environment of New Orleans, students develop a broader understanding of international commerce, supply chain management, cross-cultural collaboration, and global markets.”

Creating an Ecosystem for Lifelong Success

The college views graduation not as the conclusion of a student's journey but as the beginning of a professional career. Career development therefore forms an integral part of the student experience.

Dedicated career coaching services provide support in resume development, interview preparation, networking, and employer engagement. Through platforms such as Handshake, students access internship and employment opportunities while regularly interacting with industry professionals, alumni, and business leaders.

Entrepreneurship also receives significant attention. The university's nearby innovation and technology hub supports startup incubation, business idea development, and entrepreneurial competitions that encourage students to transform innovative concepts into viable ventures.

Business pitch competitions, mentorship opportunities, and collaborative research initiatives further strengthen students' entrepreneurial mindset.

Complementing these initiatives is the college's continued investment in modern learning infrastructure. Students have access to a financial trading laboratory equipped with live market data, technology-enabled classrooms, computer laboratories, and an expanding innovation center that will deliver professional certifications in areas such as Lean Six Sigma, Project Management, and Artificial Intelligence.

Looking ahead, the recent transition to LSU New Orleans signals a new phase of institutional growth. The college plans to expand international collaborations, strengthen industry partnerships, enhance technology-driven learning, and introduce new pedagogical innovations that reflect the changing demands of global business.

By combining affordability, internationally recognized academic standards, practical learning, and global perspectives, the Henry Bernstein College of Business Administration continues to prepare graduates who are equipped not only to succeed in today's business environment but also to shape its future.
