IIT Delhi, Australian University Offer Joint PhD With Stipend

IIT Delhi and the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, have opened applications for their collaborative Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program for the 2026 admission cycle, offering a fully funded scholarship.

The distinctive four-year joint program, carried out through the UQ-IITD Research Academy, enables students to learn in both nations and obtain a dual PhD degree from the two universities.

The enrollment procedure will start on October 30, 2025, and end on January 7, 2026. Through the IIT Delhi PhD program, chosen candidates will be awarded a substantial scholarship that covers a living allowance, tuition fee exemption, and assistance with relocation.

Qualified Indian students will get a monthly allowance of Rs 37,000 during the first year and Rs 42,000 in the third and fourth years at IIT Delhi. A supplementary addition of Rs 10,000 each month will be given in conjunction with the standard stipend.

During their research tenure at the University of Queensland in the second year, students will receive an annual stipend at the UQ rate of AUD 36,400 (2025 rate).

They will also obtain a UQ tuition fee scholarship for the full duration of the four-year program. Extra assistance comprises a relocation grant of AUD 5,200 (2025 rate) for travel from Delhi to Brisbane and international student health insurance for the research period in Australia.

As per the official timetable, the names of selected candidates will be announced between January 21 and March 4, 2026. Interviews for chosen candidates will occur between April 7 and April 16, 2026. Final offers will be presented on May 18, with the acceptance deadline established for May 29, 2026.

This program offers students the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary research under the joint mentorship of professors from both IIT Delhi and UQ. Upon completion, they will obtain a combined Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from both prestigious global institutions.
