UP Clears Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Scholarship for UK Studies

  • Five UP students to get full scholarships for UK Master’s degrees.
  • State-FCDO partnership funds tuition, travel, and living costs.
  • Two private universities have been approved in Mathura and Barabanki.

The "Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme" has received approval from the Uttar Pradesh cabinet during a meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This project involves a partnership between the state government and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) aimed at offering higher education in the UK.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that the initiative will grant scholarships annually to five outstanding students from Uttar Pradesh for a one-year Master's degree at a renowned university in the UK.

The scholarship will include tuition fees, exam and research costs, a monthly stipend for living expenses, and a round-trip ticket in economy class. The selection procedure will be equitable and clear, according to the MoU between the state government and the FCDO.

The program is set to commence in the 2025-26 academic year and will continue for three years. The state government will provide around ₹23 lakh (£19,800) for each student, while the FCDO will cover the additional expenses of about £38,000–£42,000

Moreover, the Uttar Pradesh Private University Act, 2019, has sanctioned two new private universities: K.D. University is located in Mathura, and the Bodhisattva University is located in Barabanki. K.D. University is set to be constructed on 50.54 acres of land in Mathura, whereas Bodhisattva University will be constructed on 25.31 acres in Barabanki. These new organizations are anticipated to broaden access to higher education within the state.
