IIT-H, Deakin University launch AMRIT to boost manufacturing research

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Deakin University from Australia jointly launched the Advanced Manufacturing Research Innovation and Training (AMRIT) program as a landmark venture. The collaborative project between two countries works to advance modern production technologies together with innovation development and skilled workforce building as part of India's manufacturing evolution plan.

AMRIT uses the combined knowledge of IITH and Deakin which has been accumulated through five years of partnership to advance research in additive manufacturing along with smart materials, lightweight composites, automation systems and Industry 4.0 technologies.

The initiative bridges academic research with industry demands, positioning India as a global manufacturing leader. "AMRIT represents a forward-looking step in collaborative innovation, designed to equip India's manufacturing sector with the tools, talent, and technology to lead globally. It is an extension of a longstanding multidimensional partnership with Deakin University, and I expect great outcomes through it," said Professor B.S. Murty, Director, and IIT Hyderabad.

AMRIT delivers extensive training along with certification and mobility programs which train students and professionals regarding industrial developments in the modern era. The initiative incorporates several programs such as PhD and master’s programs with collaborative structures and joint supervision along with startup incubation for entrepreneurship development. "We look forward to deepening our partnership with IIT Hyderabad through AMRIT. It is an inspiring model of how international collaboration can empower research, innovation, and talent development to advance mutually beneficial outcomes," said Professor Iain Martin, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University.

The program provides joint PhD and master’s certification with co-supervision and startup incubation services to promote entrepreneurial spirit and innovative practices. "Deakin has had a deep and enduring commitment to India for nearly three decades. AMRIT is the next big step in our journey aimed at creating a holistic platform for research, innovation, and skill-building that will shape the future of manufacturing. It reflects our vision to co-create solutions with India that have global relevance and impact," said Ravneet Pawha, Vice President (Global Engagement) and CEO (South Asia), Deakin University.

By fostering cutting-edge research and skill development, AMRIT sets a new benchmark for international collaboration, empowering India’s manufacturing sector to innovate and compete on a global stage.
