IIT Roorkee Offers Free UI Design Course on SWAYAM - Apply Now

• IIT Roorkee launches free online UI Design course on SWAYAM platform.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has begun registrations for its complimentary online course on User Interface (UI) Design available on the SWAYAM platform. Individuals, including students and professionals, who are interested in UI/UX design, visual communication, and human–machine interaction can register for the course until January 26, 2026.

The optional proctored exam, necessary for obtaining the course completion certificate, is scheduled for March 29, 2026, held in two sessions (9 am-12 pm and 2 pm-5 pm). The course introduces learners to the fundamentals of design and modern user interface principles.

It covers the origins and evolution of UI design, the methodology and workflow involved in interface design, and visual communication, including colour, typography, and layout. Learners will also explore user research techniques and design thinking, as well as contemporary tools such as eye-tracking technology for usability testing.

The programme includes case studies and best-practice models to guide the creation of user-friendly digital products. Additionally, it distinguishes between UI and UX, emphasizing how visual design components influence user perception and enhance satisfaction across digital platforms.

To be eligible for the course completion certificate, candidates must achieve a minimum assignment score of 10 out of 25 and a minimum final exam score of 30 out of 75. The exam fee is Rs 1,000. Candidates may still take the course for free without appearing for the certificate exam.
