Chevron, IIT Madras Launch Energy Startup Incubation Program

Chevron ENGINE and IIT Madras launch an incubation initiative to support energy entrepreneurs, offering access to industry expertise, incubation resources and opportunities in energy technology, infrastructure and sustainability.

Chevron ENGINE and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) launch an incubation programme aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and startups developing technologies for the energy sector. The initiative focuses on helping emerging ventures translate innovative ideas into practical solutions for energy and sustainability challenges.

The programme is being developed through the collaboration between Chevron ENGINE and IIT Madras, building on the institutions’ wider partnership in energy research and innovation. IIT Madras identifies Chevron as a founding member of The Energy Consortium, a platform that brings together academia and industry to address evolving energy-sector requirements.

The initiative provides participating entrepreneurs with access to incubation support, technical expertise and opportunities to engage with industry. Its focus areas include energy technologies, energy infrastructure, resource efficiency, carbon utilisation and solutions related to the transition towards lower-carbon systems.

As part of the current programme ecosystem, the IIT Madras Incubation Cell and Chevron ENGINE are also supporting the Tech Pioneer Grant 2026 Energy Catalyst. The initiative offers a total funding pool of ₹70 lakh across eight teams, along with incubation support for selected ventures. Applications for the current grant call close on September 28.

The programme is designed to help early-stage ventures move beyond the initial development phase by providing structured support and access to an established academic and industry network. Entrepreneurs working on technologies with potential applications across the energy value chain can use the platform to develop, test and advance their solutions.

The collaboration also complements IIT Madras’ broader efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship in energy and climate technology. The institute’s Energy Consortium works with industry partners on research and innovation, while its incubation ecosystem supports startups through technical, mentoring and commercialisation resources.

Chevron’s continued association with The Energy Consortium further strengthens the industry-academia partnership. The company recently extended its role as a founding member of the consortium for another three years, with Chevron’s Rama Venkatesan joining its Industry Advisory Board.

Through the incubation programme, Chevron ENGINE and IIT Madras seek to create a structured pathway for energy entrepreneurs to access expertise, develop technologies and explore opportunities for real-world deployment. The initiative forms part of the broader effort to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in India’s evolving energy landscape.
