IISER Bhopal PhD Admissions 2027 Open, Apply by Oct 12

IISER Bhopal invites applications for PhD admissions for the January 2027 session across science, engineering and humanities disciplines. Eligible candidates can apply online until October 12, 2026.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal invites applications for admission to its PhD programmes for the 2026-27 academic years. The programmes are scheduled to commence in January 2027, with applications remaining open until October 12, 2026, at 11:59 pm.

The doctoral programmes are offered across Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences. Under Natural Sciences, candidates can pursue research in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Physics. Engineering Sciences includes Chemical Engineering, Data Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The institute also offers PhD programmes in Economic Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Applicants are required to meet the academic and age criteria prescribed by the institute. Candidates can apply with a four-year bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or Technology, or a master's or equivalent degree in Science. Master's or equivalent degrees in Arts, Commerce, or allied subjects are also accepted for eligible programmes.

Candidates generally need a valid national-level qualification such as GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET or another recognised national examination. Certain candidates can apply without a national examination qualification, including those holding an Integrated MTech degree, BTech degrees from IITs or BS-MS degrees from IISERs with a CGPA/CPI above 8.0, and candidates with a four-year BE/BTech followed by a two-year ME/MTech degree.

The upper age limit is 28 years. Relaxation of three years is available for OBC candidates from the Non-Creamy Layer, while SC, ST, persons with disabilities and female applicants receive a five-year relaxation, as specified by the institute.

Following the application deadline, IISER Bhopal screens the submitted applications and shortlists eligible candidates for interviews. Shortlisted candidates receive interview-related communication through email, with details also made available on the institute's website.

Candidates can apply online through the IISER Bhopal admission portal. The application window opens on September 16, 2026, and closes on October 12, 2026, at 11:59 pm. Applicants are required to complete the online form and upload the necessary documents before the deadline.
