IIT Kanpur Announces Scholarships for 2025 UG Admissions
- Scholarships include Bright Minds, MCM, and INSPIRE for academic and financial support.
- 129 donor-funded scholarships managed by SSPC cater to merit and need.
- New students can apply for academic, need-based, and sports scholarships after Round 5 seat allotment.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is set to reveal the last round of seat allotments for the 2025 admissions on July 16, while IIT Kanpur is strengthening its dedication to student assistance with a wide variety of scholarships and financial support. These efforts seek to provide quality education to learners from various socio-economic backgrounds.
After the announcement of Round 5 results, students accepted into BTech and BArch programs can look into various scholarship opportunities at IIT Kanpur. These consist of merit-based scholarships, need-based financial aid, donor-sponsored awards, and grants to promote academic and athletic achievement.
The Bright Minds Scholarship is awarded to candidates who secure an All India Rank (AIR) within the top 100 in JEE Advanced, granting each recipient ₹3 lakh per year to fully cover the cost of undergraduate studies, regardless of their financial background.
The Merit-Cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship, open to non-SC/ST students with annual parental income below ₹4.5 lakh, provides a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend of ₹1,000. To retain this benefit, students must maintain a minimum CPI of 6.5, with the stipend discontinued if CPI falls between 6.0 and 6.5, although the fee waiver continues.
The INSPIRE Scholarship supports students pursuing B.S. programmes in Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics who hold a CML AIR within 10,000. It offers ₹30,000 per semester along with an annual research grant of ₹20,000, subject to a minimum CPI of 6.0 and a declaration of non-receipt of other scholarships.
Additionally, IIT Kanpur administers 129 donor-funded scholarships sponsored by alumni and benefactors, which are allocated based on academic merit, departmental criteria, or financial need under the supervision of the Students’ Scholarship and Prizes Committee (SSPC).
To support SC/ST students, the Free Basic Mess Scholarship covers basic mess charges and provides a pocket allowance for those whose annual parental income is under ₹4.5 lakh.
The institute also facilitates access to external scholarships offered by government agencies, PSUs, and other organisations, assisting students in the verification process through platforms like the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
For students excelling in sports, Sports Scholarships are awarded to 20 students annually who represent the institute or perform well in campus sports, offering ₹1,000 per month for nine months.
Furthermore, Academic Excellence Awards are given to students with a CPI of 8.5 or above in the previous academic year to encourage consistent high performance.

Graduating students may also be honoured during the convocation ceremony with awards, prizes, and medals for exceptional academic and departmental achievements, highlighting their dedication and contributions during their time at the institute.
The central authority overseeing the majority of scholarship procedures at the institute is the Students’ Scholarship and Prizes Committee (SSPC).
For programs such as the MCM, students only need to provide an income certificate to be automatically evaluated for other pertinent scholarships, including those supported by donors. Institutional scholarships are handled internally, whereas applicants for external scholarships must independently follow the required procedures.
As the last JoSAA seat allotment round is scheduled for July 16, IIT Kanpur’s comprehensive financial aid system remains an essential support for newly admitted students who want to alleviate educational expenses while concentrating on their academic and personal development.
