Holding the top position in the NIRF Engineering Rankings last year, IIT Madras maintains its prominence in academic achievement and inclusive education. The institute provides various scholarship programs that include tuition payments, living stipends, and academic incentives.
The following is an in-depth examination of the scholarships available at IIT Madras for those pursuing engineering.
The Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is awarded to students whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs 4,50,000. It is available to 25% of the students admitted and provides a 67% exemption on tuition fees. To continue receiving this benefit, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 in the previous semester.
The Institute Free Studentship is offered to students with a parental annual income not exceeding Rs 4,50,000. Similar to the Merit-cum-Means scheme, this benefit is extended to 25% of the admitted students and includes a 67% tuition fee waiver. Continued eligibility requires a minimum GPA of 5.0 in each semester.
The Institute Notional Prize is granted based on the student’s rank in the JEE and a parental income not exceeding Rs 4,50,000. This award is given to 7% of the students admitted and consists of a one-time grant of Rs 1,000.
The Institute SC/ST Scholarship is reserved for students from the SC/ST category with parental income not exceeding Rs 4,50,000. It covers free messing, a pocket allowance of Rs 250 per month, and full tuition fee exemption. To renew the scholarship, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester.
The Girish Ready Scholarship includes two awards: one for the student with the highest JEE rank and another for the best all-around performance in school. Both require a family income below Rs 5,00,000. Each selected student receives Rs 25,000 per year, renewable with a GPA of 8.0 or higher in the previous semester.
The Indian Women’s Association at Bonn Scholarship is awarded based on JEE rank and a family income not exceeding Rs 5,00,000. Under this scholarship, one BTech student receives Rs 1,250 per month for 12 months.

The Sri V Ranga Raju Memorial Scholarship is offered on a Merit-cum-Means basis to students with a parental income up to Rs 5,00,000. Preference is given to students from rural backgrounds when eligibility is equal. The selected student receives Rs 500 per month for four years, and the scholarship is renewable with a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester.
The Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Endowment Award is granted on a Merit-cum-Means basis to a student whose parental income does not exceed Rs 5.5 lakhs. This scholarship provides one-time financial support of Rs 2,500 to one deserving student.
The M Sankaraiah and M Saradha (Mithigiri) Scholarship is awarded to BTech or Dual Degree students in Electrical Engineering who achieve the highest CGPA at the end of the 4th semester. The top-performing student in the department receives a one-time award of Rs 20,000.
The Dr K Vasanth Rau Scholarship is granted based on JEE rank and a parental income up to Rs 5.5 lakhs. One student receives Rs 25,000 per annum for the entire duration of the program. To continue receiving the scholarship, the student must maintain a GPA of 6.5 or above.
After the JEE Advanced 2025 results, eligible candidates can now engage in the JoSAA 2025 counselling procedure, with mock seat allocation rounds set for June 11 and June 14. Registration and choice selection will extend until June 15, with seat allocation rounds commencing on June 20.
