- JoSAA counselling starts June 3 for admissions to 128 institutes.
- Total seats increased to 62,853; IITs alone offer 18,160 seats.
- Rajasthan has only 1,918 seats despite rising JEE participation.
Following the announcement of the JEE Advanced results on Monday, the registration period for the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling began on June 3.
Candidates who qualified in JEE Main and JEE Advanced must proceed with 'choice filling' for courses in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, 47 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI), and IIEST Shibpur on the official site - josaa.nic.in.
Education specialist Dev Sharma stated that 62,853 admissions will be offered for BTech, integrated MTech, and dual degree programs across 128 engineering colleges in the nation. According to the seat matrix published by JoSAA, the number of seats open for admission at all institutions has greatly risen compared to last year, he noted.
This year, JoSAA counselling will take place for 18,160 seats at IITs. This year, there are 18,160 seats, compared to 17,760 seats in 23 IITs in 2024.
Similarly, among the 31 NITs this year, there are 24,525 seats as against 24,229 seats in 2024. The 26 IITs are offering 9,940 seats against 8,546 last year. Lastly, the 47 GFTIs are offering 10,228 seats compared to 9,402 seats last year, as this year seven new GFTIs have been added to the list of GFTIs.

Sharma said there are 62,853 engineering seats across the country, and Rajasthan has only 1,918 engineering seats, which is approximately 3.05 percent. He stated that IIT Jodhpur has increased its seats by 10, for a total of 610 this year.
However, he pointed out that the number of seats at the other three schools hasn't changed at all, with MNIT Jaipur being 888, IIIT Kota being 330 and Central University Kishanganj Ajmer being 90.
"Rajasthan is the largest state as per area and there is a constant rise in students appearing for JEE Main and JEE Advanced from here. In view of this, there is a need to increase the engineering seats," Sharma said.
