IIT Kanpur, AU Agra Launch Cybersecurity Course for Students

IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub partners with Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra and VIF to launch an online Hindi cybersecurity programme, targeting over 3 lakh students across 570-plus affiliated colleges.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, with the help of C3iHub as a cybersecurity innovation hub, has teamed up with Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University (DBRAU), Agra, and Vivekanand Incubation Foundation (VIF) to implement a major vocational program in the domain of cybersecurity. The objective is to impart cybersecurity training to more than 3 lakh students enrolled in 570 affiliated colleges of the university.
The course is provided completely online and in Hindi to facilitate cybersecurity learning to students from semi-urban and rural backgrounds. The purpose of adopting the language-specific model is to overcome the difficulties that the learners might face due to lack of access to specialised English-language technical learning.

In this partnership, C3iHub at IIT Kanpur is responsible for developing and delivering the course curriculum based on its strengths in cybersecurity research, training, and capacity building. VIF, on the other hand, offers the necessary infrastructure for rolling out the program.
This class will mainly concentrate on cyber awareness and some issues related to the increasing cyber threats. Cybercrime and cyber hygiene, social media threats, identity theft, personal information leaks, and online security are just some of those issues to be covered. This course will also include online safety for women and children, the dark net, cyber terrorism and illegal activities online.
This project uses quizzes, workshops, and feedback from courses to enhance learners’ engagement. Furthermore, customised virtual labs are provided to offer practical knowledge on cybersecurity to the students through various realistic scenarios. The project attempts to go further than just raising awareness among students by fostering a sense of security in their digital skills.
In addition to the vocational program, DBRAU creates a specialised Cybersecurity Counselling Cell (CCC). This cell mainly helps students deal with any cases of cybercrime and also gives counselling on prevention.
It is an illustration of how vital cyber security education is becoming as more services and activities take place online. Through introducing cyber security training programs to hundreds of colleges, the two organisations hope to raise the level of cyber security awareness among students.

For IIT Kanpur, it is an added way for it to serve as a platform for cybersecurity capacity building and technology education. For DBRAU, the program offers a means by which specialised education can be extended throughout its extensive college network.
Ultimately, the aim is to build a student body that is aware of cyber issues and is digitally responsible, thereby laying the groundwork for building a technically skilled workforce to tackle future cybersecurity issues.
