IIT Madras Zanzibar Launches UG Course in Chemical Engineering

IIT Madras Zanzibar has initiated a new Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Process Engineering for 2025-26. The degree is a full-time, four-year undergraduate program offered at the Zanzibar campus and accessible to applicants of any nationality including Indian citizens.
The program offers a combination of fundamental principles of chemical engineering, laboratory work, industry-focused projects, and electives that encourage interdisciplinary study.
IIT Madras Zanzibar is the first international campus of an IIT. The initial Academic Year (2023-24) at IITM Zanzibar began in October 2023. This new program would be provided by a faculty team from IIT Madras, IITM Zanzibar, and collaborating institutions, as stated in the press release.
Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are required subjects. The classes will commence on 6th October 2025. This course provides a renowned IIT Madras degree, featuring a curriculum and teaching methods developed by IIT Madras.

The program offers a solid basis in chemical process engineering, enhanced by focused areas in data science, energy, and sustainability. Moreover, students will engage in a capstone project alongside local businesses, guaranteeing hands-on and real-world exposure.
The final day to submit applications is July 5 at 11:59 IST. The evaluation of candidates for the program will take place on July 13 from 2 pm to 5 pm IST. The interviews for the selected candidates will take place from July 25 to 30.
