IIT-BHU Launches 6-Month IoT & Smart Manufacturing Program

  • Faculties from 9 states join IIT-BHU's IoT and smart tech program.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) initiated a certification program focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart manufacturing aimed at enhancing the skills of faculty members from technical institutions.

Arranged by the Precision Engineering Hub (PEH), the program receives backing from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) through its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP), which focuses on enhancing the skills of faculty nationwide in advanced digital and smart manufacturing technologies.

A total of 36 faculty members from nine states and union territories are involved, with 25 possessing PhDs in disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The inauguration of faculty training at IIT BHU featured NK Mukhopadhyay, acting director of IIT BHU, as the chief guest. Tapash Kumar Nandy, the director of the DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), G.M. Karthik, Programme Coordinator was accompanied by faculty members Prof. Santosh Kumar, PEH coordinator, and Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Head of Mechanical Engineering.

NK Mukhopadhyay, acting director of IIT BHU, emphasized the necessity to provide teachers with practical skills via the IIT BHU certificate. He called it an important step in strengthening India’s capabilities in 'Industry 4.0' and advanced manufacturing.

Tapash Kumar Nandy, director of DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), presented the relationship and collaboration between higher education and industry, and encouraged programme participants to align their instruction around national priorities focussed on materials innovation and technology advancement strategies.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a networking event for participants and attending faculty members.
