JEE Advanced 2026 Expected Cutoff: Category-Wise Qualifying Marks

Synopsis: Expected JEE Advanced 2026 cutoffs indicate competitive qualifying marks across categories as rising demand for IIT admissions continues to intensify engineering entrance competition in India.

The expected cutoff for JEE Advanced 2026 has been released based on previous qualifying trends, exam difficulty levels, and seat availability across the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Education experts stated that the qualifying marks are likely to remain competitive due to increasing participation and strong demand for engineering admissions at premier institutes.

According to the projected estimates, the general category cutoff is expected to range between 90 and 100 marks for qualification, while cutoffs for reserved categories are likely to remain comparatively lower. The expected cutoff for OBC-NCL candidates is estimated around 80–90 marks, while SC and ST category qualifying marks could remain in the range of 45–60 marks depending on overall exam difficulty and candidate performance.

Experts noted that the final cutoff will depend on several factors including the number of candidates appearing for the examination, paper difficulty level, overall student performance, seat intake across IITs, and category-wise reservation policies. If the examination is considered more difficult than previous years, qualifying marks may decrease slightly, while easier papers could result in higher cutoffs.

JEE Advanced serves as the gateway for admission into undergraduate engineering programmes offered by the IITs and remains one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations. Only candidates who qualify in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, after which admissions are conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.

Education analysts observed that competition for top IIT branches such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, and Data Science continues to intensify as technology-focused career demand rises. Students targeting leading IITs generally require significantly higher scores than the minimum qualifying cutoff to secure admission into high-demand programmes.

The official JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff will be announced by the organising IIT after declaration of examination results. Candidates are advised to regularly monitor official examination portals for updated information regarding answer keys, counselling schedules, rank lists, and category-wise qualifying criteria.

Industry experts also noted that the growing popularity of emerging disciplines such as AI, robotics, semiconductors, and quantum computing is influencing admission preferences across IIT campuses, further increasing competition for top-ranked institutions and technology-focused branches.
