JoSAA 2026 Registration Opens for IIT, NIT Admissions
Synopsis: JoSAA 2026 counselling registration begins on June 2 for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, enabling over 59,000 engineering aspirants to participate in centralized seat allocation based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks.
Joint Seat Allocation Authority will begin the 2026 counselling and registration process on June 2, opening the gateway for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) across India. The centralized counselling process will enable engineering aspirants who have qualified through JEE Advanced 2026 and JEE Main 2026 to participate in seat allocation for premier technical institutions.
The counselling process will commence shortly after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2026 results and will include registration, choice filling, mock seat allotments, final seat allocation, fee payment, document verification, and reporting to allotted institutes. Candidates will be required to carefully select and prioritize their preferred institutes and academic programs during the choice-filling stage.
JoSAA serves as the single admission platform for India's top engineering institutes, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and several GFTIs. The counselling process is expected to facilitate admissions for more than 59,000 engineering aspirants across participating institutions, making it one of the country's largest centralized admission exercises.

The process will feature multiple rounds of seat allotment, allowing candidates to exercise options such as Freeze, Float, and Slide depending on their admission preferences. Mock allotments will help students evaluate their choices before final seat allocation, enabling informed decision-making based on rank, seat availability, and previous admission trends.
Candidates are advised to keep all required documents ready, including JEE scorecards, Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and other verification documents. Missing counselling deadlines may result in forfeiture of admission opportunities, making timely registration and participation crucial.
Education experts recommend that students thoroughly research institute and branch preferences before the choice-filling process begins. Strategic selection based on rank, career goals, and historical cut-off trends can significantly improve admission outcomes during the counselling rounds.
