Being the third-largest higher education system in the world, India is now expanding the higher education structure rapidly by adding more colleges. The latest report presented by the 'All India Survey on Higher Education' states that 39,701 colleges are imparting quality education. At present, the country is set to become one of the youngest nations in the world by 2030 having 140million college-goers. Governing the higher education system is the University Grants Commission. While this governing body oversees accreditation for higher learning, the Department of Higher Education, MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) stays accountable for the growth of the fundamental infrastructure.
Aiming to augment the gross enrolment ratio in higher education by intensifying access through all modes, MHRD is now promoting collaboration with the international community, foreign governments, regional and international institutions for the progression of universal knowledge.
